Christie and Kelly were married on a beautiful, crisp winter day at Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff Canada, surrounded by friends, family, sunshine, and mountains. Here’s some more of their experience, in their own words:
Thoughts leading up to the wedding:
Neither of us thought about it growing up, even me. I know some girls have their whole wedding planned out as a little girl but not me! The one thing both of us knew though, was it was very important to have our close family and friends there and keep the wedding small and intimate. We did a lot of the planning together and valued each other’s opinions throughout the planning process, but I definitely did more of the planning; which worked well for both of us. Marrying one another was like a dream come true for both of us. It was by far our favourite part of the day and we LOVED that we read personalized vows to one another. When we talked about it after we both said it deepened our love for each other. I also loved that I made a mistake saying my vows; it helped me let lose, laugh, and take a deep breath which allowed me to get through them without crying so much, and it made for some AMAZING photos!
The venue and location:
We wanted to get married somewhere in the mountains, as it is one of our favourite places to take mini vacays or day trips to spend quality time together, and not to mention the backdrop is breathtaking. For the venue, we wanted to have a rustic, cabin feel and Buffalo Mountain Lodge totally fit that for us.
Favourite part of the day:
Our favourite part of the day was the ceremony, 100%. However that being said, we enjoyed EVERYTHING about the whole day. From getting ready in the morning, to the first look, to listening to the outpour of love in the speeches, to dancing the night away; it truly was a perfect day in our eyes. The ceremony was just something so special that brought us that much closer. We both loved the experience of personalized vows and how unique it made our ceremony.
Did you have a favourite moment, just the two of you?
The first look! We would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who does’t mind the non traditional aspect. It is so FUN and intimate, and it is the PERFECT start to the day. It got rid of so many nervous jitters and let us enjoy our ceremony that much more.
Hmmmm, thats a tricky one, because we loved all of the details. I definitely fell in love with my dress, and Kelly looked amazing in his suit. We both loved the colours with the navy blue and maroon/merlot especially in the backdrop of the mountains. I don’t think we could really pick a favourite detail though, but what I will say, is all the planning and vision that went into how we wanted the whole room to look totally came to fruition. The pictures you guys took of the room once it was all decorated for the reception are breathtaking. It was even more beautiful than either of us could have imagined. I don’t think it was one special detail, but rather all the details coming together perfectly in our eyes. I also LOVED my flowers. lol.
Reason for choosing us:
Your photos are beautiful, candid, and we knew we could trust you to capture our day how we wanted. I also fell in love with you guys, years ago when you photographed Melanie’s wedding. You two are SO talented at capturing those special moments. One thing Kelly and I really wanted was a videographer, but it wasn’t in the budget. Looking back, I am happy we didn’t get one, because you guys did such an amazing job capturing our day that you can totally re-live it through the photos; we didn’t need one. In certain photos I can hear my parents laugh, or feel the raw emotion I felt walking down the isle!!
Advice for couples planning to get married:
Everyone says it, but it goes by SO fast. Just enjoy the day and everything about it. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and take mental pictures as the day goes on. Have fun with it, and remember that nothing else matters besides the love you have for one another; that is what the whole day is about after all!
