Earlier this year I got to spend a few hours with the Kollee family in their home and neighbourhood in Airdrie, Alberta. I have known Keith for a few years and have always heard stories about his kids Harper and Kingston and his wife Michelle. To say that Keith is a loving and proud dad is like saying that the Titanic was a little ship. The way he speaks about his kids and wife makes me so happy, it makes part of me wish I was a dad so that I could love my family the way he does.
Kingston is a total showman, right from the moment I arrived before breakfast in the morning he knew something was up, and for the rest of the day all the world was a stage. Later in the afternoon however he started to just be himself, spending time with his best friend playing with toys and video games. Harper is a quiet, precise, and beautiful little girl who doesn’t just live in the world, she observes it closely and interacts with it purposefully. I spent a quiet half-hour in her room watching her play with her dolls, and it was one of the most peaceful and meditative times I’ve ever spent with my camera and another person.
Keith and Michelle have created a wonderful home for their amazing family, and I thank them for inviting me in.
